Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12, 1988[1]) is a Canadian performer and actress. O'Neil, the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's 3rd season was awarded the title in 2005. In her role as an actress, she is famous for her performances as Two / Rebecca as Two / Rebecca / Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction series Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was widely praised by judges, she had a huge setback in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, because she was in the lowest three and the bottom two, respectively. The judges were stunned at this and advised viewers to choose Melissa for her voice talents. O'Neil's performances were always praised and O'Neil was not relegated to the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, called O'Neil "a chance to win it all". The 7th of September, 2005, O'Neil was able to make it into the final two of the competition, alongside Rex Goudie, and after some more impressive performances and performances, judge Werner famously declared that the headlines of the next day's newspapers would read "The King, Kalan Porter has died and long live the Queen." In the grand final results ceremony on September 14, 2005, O'Neil defeated Goudie to be crowned the third Canadian Idol, as well as the first female winner, as well as (at 17) the youngest winner of the show's history.
